In a significant development during the ongoing four-day humanitarian pause in Gaza, Egypt has announced a substantial influx of aid and essential resources. Starting Friday, 130,000 liters of diesel and four trucks of gas will be daily delivered to Gaza from Egypt, marking a crucial lifeline for the war-torn enclave. Diaa Rashwan, Chairman of Egypt’s State Information Service, highlighted that this includes 200 trucks loaded with food, medicine, and water entering Gaza daily for the first time since the conflict began on October 7.
Egypt’s commitment extends beyond supplies; they will receive wounded children from Gaza for treatment, assist in the repatriation of detained foreigners, and even allow Palestinians to enter Gaza through the Rafah border crossing. The development is part of a broader ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the US, aiming to bring relief to the 49-day-long conflict. The deal involves the release of hostages by Hamas and the reciprocal release of Palestinian detainees by Israel, with a cessation of military operations in Gaza during the pause.
