Historic Moment as Bangladesh Welcomes First Female Firefighters

In a groundbreaking development, Bangladesh’s Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) witnessed history as 15 female firefighters joined the force for the first time. The induction ceremony, presided over by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in Dhaka, marked a significant milestone in gender inclusion within the FSCD.

Out of 2,707 applicants, these 15 women underwent rigorous screening processes, including physical fitness tests, medical examinations, written tests, and oral interviews.

Their official entry into the force, located in Purbachal on the outskirts of Dhaka, reflects strides towards gender equality. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent order renaming the position from ‘Fireman’ to ‘Firefighter’ underscores the government’s commitment to eliminating gender discrimination in professional roles.
