Heavy rain in Hyderabad and its suburbs on Tuesday led to widespread flooding, crippling normal life and causing severe traffic disruptions. Low-lying residential areas near lakes and stormwater drains bore the brunt, with roads turning into pools of water. Some homes were inundated, causing damage to household items and immense hardships for residents.
Educational institutions were closed, and traffic jams paralyzed major routes as vehicles struggled through submerged roads. IT employees were advised to work from home, and the Cyberabad Police urged citizens to take precautions due to the forecast of more rain. Disaster Response Force teams were deployed to clear water stagnation and fallen trees, and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation issued an alert, urging people to stay home unless absolutely necessary.
GHMC officials monitored water levels in reservoirs and stormwater drains. Heavy rainfall was recorded across the city, with Miyapur receiving the highest at 14 cm.
