Hany Babu Withdraws Plea in Bhima Koregaon Case
Delhi University associate professor Hany Babu, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, has opted to withdraw his appeal challenging the rejection of his bail application by the Bombay High Court. His decision came after a recent development where other accused in the case, including former Nagpur University professor Shoma Sen and activists Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira, secured bail from the Supreme Court.
Babu’s counsel cited a “change in circumstances” given the bail granted to his co-accused and indicated that Babu would pursue a plea of parity with them in the High Court. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the case, alleges that Babu was involved in propagating Maoist activities and ideology on behalf of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization. Arrested in July 2020, Babu has been held in Taloja Jail since then.
