Gujarat Government to Start Buying Chana and Mustard at MSP from April 21

The Gujarat government has announced that it will start buying chana (gram) and mustard directly from farmers at Minimum Support Prices (MSP) on April 21. The government made this decision to support farmers and ensure they receive fair prices for their crops.

The state officials confirmed the procurement plan on Thursday. They said that the purchase will begin in various districts across Gujarat. The government has set up special centers where farmers can sell their produce at the MSP without the fear of price drops in the open market.

The central government has already fixed the MSP for the Rabi 2023-24 season. For this season, the MSP for chana is ₹5,440 per quintal and for mustard it is ₹5,650 per quintal. The Gujarat government will follow these rates during the procurement.

To take part in this scheme, farmers must register online or at local agricultural offices. After registration, they can bring their crops to the designated centers on their scheduled dates. The government will weigh the produce, check the quality, and make payments directly into the farmers’ bank accounts.

Officials from the agriculture department have encouraged all eligible farmers to register early. They said that the state will continue to monitor the procurement process closely and ensure smooth and fair operations at every center.

The government aims to protect farmers from middlemen who often offer low prices. By buying chana and mustard at MSP, the state will help farmers earn more and reduce their financial stress during the harvest season.

This step also supports the broader goal of improving agricultural income and ensuring food security in the country. Many farmer groups have welcomed the announcement and thanked the government for acting on time.

As the procurement starts on April 21, thousands of farmers across Gujarat are preparing to sell their crops directly and receive guaranteed payments.
