Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has greenlit a proposal for the introduction of a Group (Term) Insurance Scheme specifically catering to Casual Paid Labourers (CPLs) engaged by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), General Reserve Engineer Force. The scheme provides an insurance value of Rs 10 lakh, ensuring compensation to the next of kin in the unfortunate event of a labourer’s death during project work.
Recognizing the significant risks faced by CPLs in challenging work environments, including hazardous sites, inclement weather, and inhospitable terrain, the Ministry of Defence emphasized that insurance coverage serves as a morale booster and social security measure for these workers. This move is part of several recent welfare measures approved by the Defence Minister for the benefit of CPLs, demonstrating the government’s commitment to their well-being.
