The Greater Chennai Corporation is gearing up to tackle disasters with the help of its Workforce app, developed by the civic body’s Command and Control Centre. As the monsoon season approaches, the app will be put to the test, equipped with category-wise data on complaints and a phone directory to streamline communication with relevant officials.
Since its inception in October 2022, the Workforce app has proven effective in quickly contacting officials and resolving grievances. It is currently used by GCC officers at all levels to address day-to-day issues, such as fallen trees and solid waste management. Grievances received through calls to 1913 and social media are recorded on the app, including the number of complaints, resolutions, and pending cases down to the ward level.
The system also sends notifications to higher-level officials if grievances remain unresolved or need to be revisited. During disaster situations, the app’s functionality will remain crucial in managing the response efficiently.
