City Mayor R. Priya and other officials from the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) visited Rome, Paris, and Barcelona to observe and study waste disposal mechanisms implemented in those cities. The purpose of the trip was to identify effective measures for solid waste management (SWM) that could be emulated in Chennai.
After the trip, the GCC is considering introducing new initiatives and practices inspired by the waste management systems of the visited cities. A report on the observations and findings from the trip was presented to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The aim is to improve the SWM system in Chennai and implement successful waste management practices used in Rome, Paris, and Barcelona.
