Greater Chennai Corporation to Launch Free Pet Clinics and Animal Birth Control Centres

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to open advanced pet clinics and animal birth control centres in Lloyds Colony, Pulianthope, and Kannamapet by August. With over 80% of the construction completed, these centres will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including kennels for 160 dogs, operation theatres, and laboratories.

Funded at ₹7 crore, the Lloyds Colony centre aims to enhance pet care and increase animal birth control surgeries from 65 to 110 per day. Services will be provided free of charge, and the centres will help reduce infection rates and improve surgical quality. The GCC has also initiated a dog census with 40 volunteers, aiming for completion by August.
