Greater Chennai Corporation to Install Weather Shelters at Road Junctions
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced plans to set up weather shelters at traffic signals to provide relief to motorists from the scorching sun and heavy rains. These shelters, designed to withstand cyclones and heavy winds, will be installed at 10 locations in the first phase. GCC Chief Engineer S. Rajendiran emphasized that the shelters would be restricted to motorcycles, with white markings for better visibility.
The decision to install these shelters came after concerns were raised about the structural stability of green shade clothing materials, prompting the GCC to prioritize the safety of motorists. The initiative aims to provide a safer and more comfortable experience for motorists during both summer and monsoon seasons.
