The Greater Chennai Corporation is expediting the completion of stormwater drain projects in areas that experienced water stagnation after heavy rains on Sunday night. The municipal body is compiling a list of localities where complaints of water accumulation have emerged near ongoing construction sites of stormwater drains. Residents have been urged to report such sites to the helpline number 1913.
In response, the Corporation Commissioner, J. Radhakrishnan, conducted inspections of various areas, including Ayanavaram Main Road and Madhavaram Tank Road, where incomplete stormwater drain work contributed to flooding. Pump installations have been set up for water drainage, with the assurance that the work will resolve water stagnation issues.
Additionally, officials inspected the Kathipara underpass, which had experienced water stagnation that has since been addressed. Mayor R. Priya and the Commissioner also surveyed parts of north Chennai to expedite initiatives aimed at preventing water stagnation. The Perambur subway was among the areas visited by officials due to reported water stagnation concerns.
