In the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has undertaken a massive cleanup effort, collecting over 28,500 tonnes of waste in just four days. Nearly 23,000 personnel, including GCC workers and those from private agencies, have been working tirelessly to clear debris and garbage from the city.
The GCC Commissioner, J. Radhakrishnan, announced that the cleanup would target garden waste, including fallen branches and trees, to complete the task by December 11. Plans are also underway to improve the transfer station in Pulianthope to enhance waste management and control unpleasant odors near the Perungudi and Kodungaiyur dump yards.
Despite challenges, including damaged homes for conservancy workers, attendance has reached 92%, demonstrating a concerted effort to address the aftermath of the cyclone.
