Greater Chennai Corporation Boosts Health Workforce for Monsoon Preparedness
In preparation for the upcoming northeast monsoon, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to enhance its public health services by recruiting additional medical personnel. Following meetings and inspections led by GCC Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan, plans include hiring 13 medical officers, 50 staff, and 122 auxiliary nurses in the coming weeks.
Another batch of specialists, comprising 12 gynecologists, nine pediatricians, 14 general surgeons, and one orthopedician, will also be added to the workforce. Addressing the existing vacancies, demands from councilors emphasize permanent recruitment for various roles, such as medical officers, staff nurses, pharmacists, and sanitary inspectors.
Residents’ concerns, particularly regarding snake bites during the monsoon, highlight the need for expanded public health services. GCC aims to equip health centers with modern facilities and enhance medical resources to address civic issues effectively, ensuring readiness for any health challenges posed by the approaching monsoon season.
