Government Appoints Four Members to 16th Finance Commission
The Indian government has appointed four members to the newly constituted 16th Finance Commission. Ajay Narayan Jha, former Expenditure Secretary and member of the previous 15th Finance Commission, along with Soumya Kanti Ghosh, SBI Group Chief Economic Advisor, are among the appointments. Annie George Mathew and Niranjan Rajadhyaksha have also been named as full-time members, while Soumya Kanti Ghosh will serve as a part-time member.
The Commission, chaired by Arvind Panagariya, the former Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog, will submit its report on center-state financial relations and related matters to the President by October 31, 2025. The report will cover the five years starting April 1, 2026.
