Goa Police Bust Extortion Racket: Arrests Made in False Rape Case Threats
Goa Police have apprehended two women and a man accused of orchestrating an extortion racket through threats of filing false rape complaints. Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan revealed that the investigation began after Kiran Patel filed a complaint against the two women, both hailing from Gujarat. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects were running an extortion scheme, coercing victims into paying money by threatening to lodge fabricated rape cases against them.
One of the women had herself filed a rape complaint on August 23 at the Colvale police station, but further investigation unveiled her involvement in multiple FIRs in both Goa and Gujarat. The accused had reportedly extorted money from a businessman, claiming they would accuse him in a rape case. Another individual, Vishwadeep Gohil from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, has been identified as a co-accused in the case.
The racket’s exposure was a collaborative effort between Colvale and Calangute Police in North Goa, with investigations ongoing to unravel the extent of their activities. The accused face charges under sections 386 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.
