The Small and Medium Hoteliers Association (SMHA) in Goa claims an 80% business loss this year due to a significant drop in tourist arrivals. The association president, Santosh Divkar, attributes the decline to government policies, difficulties in obtaining visas, and increased expenses in comparison to other tourist destinations.
Divkar emphasizes the need for controlling flight ticket prices, addressing visa issues, and ensuring ease of business to revive tourism. Hoteliers suggest that stringent rules, harassment of tourists by traffic police, and negative perceptions related to dance bars and late-night parties also contribute to the decline in footfall. Goa’s tourism industry seeks government intervention to promote the sector and address various challenges.
