Goa Chief Minister Warns Rent-a-Car and Bike Owners on Accidents Involving Alcohol

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant issued a stern warning on Tuesday to those driving under the influence of alcohol, cautioning that the owners of “rent a car or a bike” services will be arrested along with drivers involved in accidents resulting in fatalities on the road. The warning comes in response to recent accidents in the state involving rent-a-car services used by tourists visiting the coastal region.

Sawant highlighted the rise in accidents due to reckless driving and failure to adhere to traffic rules. He stressed the need for the transport and police departments to take action in such cases. Sawant indicated that in the future, the owners of rental cars or bikes would be held accountable if their vehicles were involved in accidents resulting in fatalities.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that tourists were informed not to drink and drive and underlined the government’s commitment to promoting road safety and discipline.
