Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated on Tuesday that his government has not yet received any urgent proposal to pass the ‘Women’s Reservation Bill’ at the state level. However, he mentioned that if such a directive were to be issued, the government would take the necessary steps. Sawant explained that currently, there has been no pressing request from the Centre, as was the case during the passage of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
He further elaborated that there is a procedural process involving delimitation and others, but they plan to pass the women’s reservation bill at the state level during the next assembly session and subsequently forward it to the Centre. If an urgent proposal comes from the Centre, they will hold a session to pass it and then send it accordingly. The Congress has criticized the BJP government for not implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill, despite Congress leaders extending unconditional support.
