GCC Prepared for Monsoon Challenges with Rapid Response

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan has assured the public that the civic body is well-prepared to tackle monsoon-related challenges. He reported that GCC has been vigilant since the onset of the northeast monsoon on October 22, focusing on 35,000 roads spanning 5,800 kilometers and 11,000 storm-water drains.

Notably, the GCC has taken steps to clear any inundation reported across the city within an hour, demonstrating their commitment to swift responses to rain-related issues. While their preparations have been extensive, Mr. Radhakrishnan highlighted that some work on storm-water drains remains pending, including the completion of missing links at 30 locations, covering 3 kilometers.

A portion of this work, approximately 1.2 kilometers, has already been finished in areas like E.V.R. Periyar Salai. The civic body has also undertaken flood-charting of the city to understand the flow of rainwater and drainage systems, encompassing key basins and canals.
