Fresh Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan’s Herat Province, Injuring 80

Just five days after a massive earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Herat province, killing over 2,000 people, another earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit the same region, causing injuries to 80 people. The epicenter of this new earthquake is near the city of Herat. It comes as rescuers are still searching for survivors from the previous 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Zindajan, a rural district near Herat city on October 7.

Many homes are estimated to have been completely destroyed, and some villages were flattened during that quake. Afghanistan is prone to earthquakes, given its location near the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
