Four Arrested for Circulating Counterfeit Currency in Chennai

Four individuals, including an ex-serviceman and a lawyer, were apprehended by the Chennai police for their involvement in circulating counterfeit currency notes of ₹500 denomination in the Nungambakkam area. The police, acting on a tip-off from a vigilant vegetable vendor named Mani, who suspected the notes provided by a customer to be fake, arrested Annamalai, 65, the ex-serviceman, and Subramanian, 62, the lawyer.

The police team, led by Deputy Commissioner Deshmukh Sekar Sanjay, seized counterfeit notes worth ₹42 lakh, as well as printing and cutting equipment used for their production. The arrest came after a thorough interrogation and was executed on the orders of the Additional Commissioner of Police, South, Prem Anand Sinha.
