Forest Department Intensifies Surveillance to Combat Bird Flu Spread in Andhra Pradesh

In response to the threat of avian influenza, the Wildlife Management Division of the Forest Department in Andhra Pradesh has escalated its vigilance efforts across sanctuaries and wetlands. Officials at various levels, including Conservators, Range Officers, and field staff, have been tasked with closely monitoring migratory bird behavior and collecting samples for testing. With migratory birds posing a potential risk for transmitting the virus, authorities are diligently recording bird arrivals, their duration of stay, and any unusual behavioral patterns in protected areas.

Special attention is being paid to areas where infected birds may come into contact with poultry, heightening the urgency of surveillance measures. Instructed to exercise caution while handling deceased birds, forest officials are collaborating with animal husbandry authorities to swiftly respond to any potential outbreaks. Despite proactive measures, there have been no reported cases of avian influenza in sanctuaries or bird habitats within the state thus far, providing some reassurance amid heightened monitoring efforts.
