Foeticide Scam Unveils Shocking Scale of Operations in Bengaluru

The investigation into the recent foeticide scam in Bengaluru has taken a disturbing turn as the accused confessed to having aborted a staggering 3,000 female fetuses. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand revealed on Tuesday that the accused, aiming for financial gain, had set a target of 1,000 abortions annually, charging between Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per termination.

In the last three months alone, 242 female fetuses were reportedly aborted. The scam surfaced when police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on October 15, leading to a chase and subsequent revelations during interrogation.

Nine individuals, including two doctors and three lab technicians, have been arrested in connection with the illicit operation, with two of them also linked to a kidnapping case. Investigations further exposed that abortions took place at a jaggery production unit in Mandya district, prompting the seizure of the facility. Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara assured a swift and comprehensive conclusion to the investigation.
