During the last 24 hours, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir remained cloudy and wet, prompting the Meteorological (MeT) office to issue a flood risk warning for the next two days. According to the MeT department’s statement, there were widespread rains in most places of the Jammu region and Anantnag and Kulgam areas in the Valley.
Notably, Katra in the Reasi district of Jammu region experienced an unprecedented extremely heavy rainfall of 315.4mm in a 24-hour period. This rainfall is the highest since 1980, surpassing the previous record of 292.4mm on July 31, 2019. The rain is expected to continue for the next 3-4 hours and subsequently decrease in the Jammu & Kashmir regions.
