Fishermen Protest Evictions by HR&CE Department

Fishermen from Sulerikattukuppam, Pattipulamkuppam, and Salavankuppam in Chengalpattu district protested against the HR&CE Department’s eviction orders, which label their homes as encroachments on land belonging to the Sri Alavandar Trust. Joined by Neithal Makkal Katchi, they argued their villages have existed for decades and are not illegal. Fisher leader K. Bharathi urged the government to negotiate with the Trust for a resolution, highlighting the presence of installations like desalination plants and the East Coast Road on the disputed land.
