Fishermen organizations rejected CRZ 2011 amendment notification
The National Platform for Small Scale Fish Workers (NPSSFW) and other fishermen organizations have rejected the recent Coastal Regulation Zone Amendment Notification issued by the Union Ministry of Environment.
NPSSFW’s National convener, Pradip Chatterjee, criticized the notification, stating that it flouted democratic norms and legal proprieties to favor the interests of the corporate sector over the conservation of coastal natural resources and the livelihood of small-scale fishing communities dependent on them.
The Amendment Notification (No. S.O. 2903 (E)), dated July 3, was issued four years and six months after it was superseded by the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification in 2019.
