A fire broke out in Kolkata’s Jorabagan area, resulting in the destruction of seven houses and a sawmill. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident that occurred late Thursday night near the Nimtala crematorium on Kathgola Street. The residents managed to escape safely before the houses were engulfed in flames.
Responding to the situation, 10 fire tenders rushed to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control. Fire services personnel are investigating the cause of the blaze, with initial suspicions pointing to a short circuit at a tea shop on the ground floor of one of the houses.
Local councilor Meera Hazra is considering compensation or rehabilitation options for the affected families due to the fire’s rapid spread, aided by the presence of highly inflammable items in the sawmill.
