A fire broke out at the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital here on Wednesday, however, no one was injured, Minister Sovan Chatterjee said.
Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “The blaze broke out at a medical store on the ground floor of the MCH building at around 7.58 a.m. The reason behind the blaze is yet to be ascertained,” a fire official said.
Chatterjee, who is the West Bengal Minister of Fire, Engineering, Housing, and Environment, reached the hospital. He said: “There are no reports of injury or casualty.
“There is a huge smoke. All the patients have been evacuated. The firefighters were present in the affected building to find the source of the blaze.”
According to Jayanta Das, supervisor of the affected building, around 150 patients from different departments were rescued.
