FIR Registered Against TV Anchor for Using Pakistan Flag to Represent Muslims
An FIR has been filed against Ajith Hanumakkanavar, an anchor of a Kannada News Channel, for allegedly demeaning the minority community during a news debate on population growth. The High Grounds police registered the FIR based on a complaint filed by Tanveer Ahmed under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code, accusing Hanumakkanavar of creating enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes.
The controversy arose when the channel used the Pakistan flag to denote the Muslim population in a graphic plate during a discussion on a working paper about religious minorities. While the channel apologized and withdrew the graphic slide, Ahmed alleged that the act was deliberate and intended to humiliate the Muslim community’s contribution to the nation. The police have issued a notice to Hanumakkanavar to appear for questioning in connection with the case.
