FIR Lodged Against 51 Policemen in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur Lathi-Charge Case
An FIR has been filed in relation to the alleged lathi-charge on lawyers in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, naming 51 policemen and mentioning 90 unidentified personnel. This action follows a three-day strike by lawyers across the state to protest the alleged police aggression against advocates in the district. The Lathi charge reportedly occurred on August 29 when lawyers were demonstrating against the registration of a case against a woman advocate and her father.
The FIR includes charges under sections of the Indian Penal Code such as rioting, causing hurt, intentional insult, criminal intimidation, and attempting to commit culpable homicide. A complaint was filed by senior advocate Sudhir Rana against the policemen, including the circle officer (city), six inspectors, and 14 sub-inspectors, along with around 90 unidentified personnel, at City Police Station.
The Hapur Bar Association has announced a boycott of the ‘Rashtriya Lok Adalat’ scheduled for September 9 in response to the situation. On August 30, an FIR was registered against 17 lawyers and over 250 unidentified individuals concerning a protest at the tehsil crossing in Hapur.
