FIR Filed Against Youth for Provocative Post Regarding Udupi Murders

An FIR has been registered against a youth, Hafeez Muhammad from Shivamogga, in Karnataka’s Udupi district for making a provocative statement on social media. The accused’s post claimed that an opportunity was missed to “finish off” the killer of a Muslim family, Praveen Chougale, who was arrested for murdering four individuals, including three women, in Udupi.

The FIR was filed under IPC Section 155 (liability for the benefit of a riot) and 505 (2) (making false statements with specific intent). The police clarified that the post suggested a missed opportunity for public retaliation against the accused during a police investigation.
