FIR Filed Against CMDA Official and Leaseholder for Illegal Shop Allotment in Koyambedu Market
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has taken action against a Superintending Engineer (SE) of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and a leaseholder of a shop in the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex for alleged corruption and causing loss to the State government.
The case was filed based on a complaint by G. Karthik, who accused SE Srinivasa Rao of allotting the shop to P. Senthil Kumar at a lower price than fixed, resulting in a loss of nearly ₹87 lakh to the Exchequer. The FIR further stated that the SE, with the cooperation of Senthil Kumar, converted the designated restaurant space into vegetable shops, leading to a loss of rental value.
Additionally, the leaseholder was found to have sublet the shop to several vegetable and fruit vendors, committing further offenses. The DVAC has filed cases under two sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), initiating legal proceedings against the accused in relation to the illegal shop allotment in the Koyambedu market.
