Fatal Blast at Private Firecracker Unit in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur District
A tragic incident occurred at a private firecracker manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur district, resulting in two fatalities and eight others sustaining injuries. The explosion took place at Vetriyur Viragalur, located within the Keelapalur police station limits, at approximately 9:30 a.m. According to the police, a powerful blast occurred, and the bodies of two individuals have been recovered so far, though their identities remain undisclosed. Meanwhile, eight individuals who were working at the factory were injured in the explosion.
This incident follows a recent major explosion in Attibele near the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, where 14 people lost their lives. In response to the tragedy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin announced compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the families of each deceased victim and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Remarkably, this marks the fourth explosion in firecracker manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu in the past three months. In July, a fireworks godown explosion in Krishnagiri district claimed the lives of nine individuals, while in September, an explosion in Nagapattinam district resulted in one fatality and three injuries. Another explosion at a firecracker unit in Mayiladuthurai district during late September left four persons dead and four others injured.
