Expansion of Kochi Water Metro Network Enhances Connectivity
With the inauguration of four new terminals at South Chittoor, Eloor, Cheranalloor, and North Mulavukad on March 14, the Kochi Water Metro is poised to bolster connectivity for islanders. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is scheduled to virtually inaugurate these terminals, marking a significant expansion of the waterway network. The addition of these terminals increases the total number of routes to five and terminals to nine, benefiting more commuters. Operated by electric-hybrid ferries, the project aims to link 38 terminals across the mainland and 10 islands, promising enhanced accessibility. As daily patronage is expected to surpass 10,000, especially during school vacations, the initiative signifies a major stride towards efficient and sustainable urban transport in Kochi. Furthermore, with the Cochin Shipyard delivering additional ferries, including one for Fort Kochi, the network’s reach and capacity are set to further expand, catering to the growing demand for water-based transit options.
