EVM Malfunctions and Delays Mar Vote Counting in Chennai North and South Constituencies

The 2024 election results in Chennai North and South faced significant delays due to malfunctioning electronic voting machines (EVMs), dragging the counting process well into the night. Despite a peaceful counting process in Chennai Central, meticulous cross-checking slowed down the announcement of results. In Chennai South, the malfunction of several EVMs caused delays, with BJP candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan voicing concerns over the uncounted votes.

Chennai North saw fewer issues but still experienced delays due to the need for precise data verification. The Election Commission assured that VVPAT slips would be used for the malfunctioning EVMs. Despite the disruptions, DMK candidate Dayanidhi Maran secured a victory in Chennai Central, overcoming the hurdles posed by technical glitches.
