Eviction Drive in Gummidipoondi Leads to Suicide Attempt

A 33-year-old man, Rajkumar, attempted suicide during an eviction drive in Gummidipoondi on Thursday, where revenue authorities aimed to clear encroachments, including his house.

The police intervened, rescuing and rushing him to the hospital for first aid before referring him to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. The incident sparked significant tension among residents, who opposed the demolition of their homes. BJP State President K. Annamalai criticized the action, highlighting perceived disparities in treatment between common citizens and real estate developers under the current DMK regime.
