The entry fee and safari fare at Vandalur Zoo, also known as Arignar Anna Zoological Park, are set to be increased. The current entry fee of ₹100 is proposed to be raised to ₹200 to meet the growing cost of maintenance and staff salaries. The zoo, spread across 602 hectares, attracts over 2,500 visitors daily on average and about 10,000 visitors on weekends.
A proposal to increase the fee to ₹1,550 per family for traveling around the zoo in battery-operated vehicles has been sent to the authorities. The zoo management is also planning to introduce air-conditioned vehicles for the lion and deer safari, for which the current charges are ₹100 and ₹60 for adults and children, respectively. An official order regarding the fee increase is expected to be released soon.
