Ensuring Mangrove Survival: A Collaborative Effort
Efforts to safeguard Ennore Creek’s mangroves post-oil spill are in full swing, with 20 hectares severely and 40 hectares moderately affected. The Forest Department, employing standard methods, pruned 5,000 mangroves for fresh growth.
Continuous monitoring, led by the Chennai Circle’s Conservator of Forests, aims to ensure the survival of these vital ecosystems. With the engagement of NIO and IIT-M, assessments for bioremediation and damage extent are underway. By April’s end, comprehensive reports are expected to chart the path for complete mangrove revival.
