The introduction of the Pink Squad on Chennai Metro Rail marks a significant step towards enhancing the safety of women passengers. Comprising 23 well-trained security personnel, including black belt holders in martial arts like karate, silambam, and kickboxing, the squad aims to instill confidence among women commuters.
Equipped with batons and stationed in women’s coaches, their presence assures passengers of immediate assistance in case of emergencies or harassment. With a focus on key stations like Chennai Central and Alandur, the squad conducts regular patrols to ensure a secure environment. In the event of misconduct, offenders are promptly handed over to station controllers and subsequently to the police, demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach towards harassment.
The initiative reflects Chennai Metro Rail’s commitment to women’s safety and encourages more women to use public transportation with peace of mind.
