Enhancing Connectivity: Last Mile Solutions for Chennai Metro Rail Stations

Five key stations along the Chennai Metro Rail network, including Thirumangalam, Guindy, Chennai Airport, Koyambedu, and Alandur, are set to receive last-mile connectivity facilities in the coming year. Recognizing these stations’ high footfall, officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) plan to introduce electric vehicles of varying capacities, such as four-seaters, five-seaters, eight-seaters, and 12-seaters.

CMRL will initiate the process by floating an expression of interest (EOI), allowing them to assess vendor responses, financial capabilities, and potential business models.

The decision to focus on these specific stations initially, out of the 54 km functional network, remains unclear, as commuters have long advocated for comprehensive last-mile connectivity across all stations. Despite the existing presence of minibusses and e-autorickshaws in some stations, the move signifies a positive step toward addressing the community’s demand for seamless transit solutions.
