An intense encounter unfolded on Monday between the Kerala Police and Maoists in the dense forests of Kannur district. The ThunderBolt squad, specifically formed to combat Maoist activities, was conducting routine surveillance when they were fired upon by two Maoists. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, lasting for some time, the police retaliated, leaving blood marks at the site and recovering three guns after half an hour.
Remarkably, the police reported no injuries to their team. Post the encounter, the Maoists managed to escape into the deep forests bordering Karnataka. This incident follows heightened vigilance since October 30 when a Maoist gang attacked forest watchers. Just last week, the Kerala Police apprehended two Maoists from the same area, with a local court granting custody to the police until November 22.
