The Chandera police have apprehended a 26-year-old man employed as a salesman at a jewelry outlet in connection with the theft of gold jewelry valued at ₹11.25 lakh. The suspect, identified as Irfan, stands accused of stealing 184 grams of gold ornaments over a period between November 2023 and February 2024. CCTV footage from the store played a crucial role in identifying Irfan as the perpetrator, who allegedly sold the stolen gold to fuel his addiction to online gaming.
Subsequent police investigations revealed that Irfan pawned the gold in nearby establishments to finance his nocturnal gaming sessions. Following a detailed interrogation, Irfan confessed to diverting the proceeds from the stolen gold into online gaming. Inspector G.P. Manuraj of Chandera is overseeing the investigation, with plans to present Irfan in court for remand.
