Ela Gandhi Advocates Unity Amid Allegations of Religious Division
Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi and a prominent peace activist in South Africa, has emphasized the importance of resisting forces that seek to sow division and hatred among communities. Responding to social media posts alleging exclusion of Hindu prayers at an inter-faith meeting, Ela Gandhi reaffirmed the inclusive ethos of the Gandhi Development and Phoenix Settlement Trust.
She underscored that religious teachings advocate compassion and love, rejecting any promotion of animosity or violence in the name of faith. Ela Gandhi emphasized the need to address misinformation promptly to prevent further division and mischief. Clarifying that Hindu prayers were indeed invited to the event, she highlighted past instances where the absence of certain faiths occurred due to circumstances, not deliberate exclusion. Throughout its 120-year history, the Phoenix Settlement has stood as a symbol of inclusivity, with Ela Gandhi refuting accusations of sectarian bias or indoctrination.
