The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has successfully traced assets and properties valued at over Rs 100 crore belonging to Bakibur Rahman, a Kolkata-based businessman who was recently arrested in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution scam in West Bengal. ED investigators have identified a total of 95 properties registered in Rahman’s name, as well as in the names of his family members, relatives, and close associates.
It has been revealed that the actual investments behind these properties, even those registered under others’ names, were made by Rahman himself. However, Rahman has reportedly not provided satisfactory explanations regarding the sources of funds used for these investments. The assets include 51 acres of land scattered across the state, nine residential flats, a hotel, a high-end bar-cum-restaurant, three rice mills, and two high-end residential flats in Dubai.
The ED has also uncovered evidence of Rahman’s use of hawala routes for purchasing overseas properties and has identified financial transactions through bank accounts belonging to his wife and brother-in-law, suggesting money diversion. Further investigations are ongoing, with the possibility of more undisclosed assets coming to light.
