ED Officer Arrested in Tamil Nadu for Alleged Bribery; DVAC Conducts Raids
In an unprecedented move, officials from the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested Ankit Tiwari, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer, for allegedly extorting Rs 20 lakh from a government doctor facing a disproportionate assets case. The DVAC conducted searches at the ED’s Madurai office and Tiwari’s residence after arresting him.
The action follows a complaint from Dr. Suresh Babu, who accused Tiwari of demanding Rs 3 crore initially and later negotiating for Rs 51 lakh to absolve him of the charges. Tiwari allegedly received Rs 20 lakh in cash and was arrested, marking the first time an ED officer has been arrested in Tamil Nadu.
