ECI Orders Probe into MCC Violations at PM’s Meeting in Andhra Pradesh

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Andhra Pradesh, Mukesh Kumar Meena, to conduct a thorough inquiry into alleged violations of protocol and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during a public meeting held by the BJP-TDP-JSP alliance at Boppudi village near Chilakaluripeta on March 17. This meeting, titled ‘Praja Galam,’ marked the first joint appearance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, TDP’s N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Jana Sena Party’s Pawan Kalyan since their alliance formed.

Following the ECI’s instructions on Thursday, Mr. Meena affirmed that he would initiate an investigation and promptly submit a factual report. The ECI expressed grave concern over two murders occurring shortly after the MCC’s implementation, deeming one politically motivated and the other stemming from familial rivalry. Mr. Meena pledged to provide comprehensive reports to the ECI regarding these incidents, emphasizing the need for strict action against any unlawful activities. Additionally, the CEO urged the SPs to organize all-party meetings to reiterate a zero-tolerance policy towards violence.
