Early Nominations and Cash Seizures Mark Beginning of Lok Sabha Elections in Chennai
The start of the Lok Sabha elections in Chennai saw only four candidates filing nominations on the first day, including an independent candidate, Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate, and two candidates from Thakkam Katchi. Election officials anticipate an increase in nominations in the coming days.
However, alongside the election process, authorities have been vigilant in enforcing the model code of conduct, resulting in the seizure of over ₹29 lakh in cash without valid documents between March 17 and 19. The Election Commission of India has appointed six expenditure observers to monitor election expenditure in Chennai’s three parliamentary constituencies, with recent inspections conducted to ensure compliance and adherence to electoral protocols.
