EAC Report Sparks Controversy Over Declining Hindu Population
The recent report by the Economic Advisory Council to the PM (EAC-PM), revealing a decrease in the share of the Hindu population by 7.82% between 1950 and 2015, has stirred controversy. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized the need for serious answers, questioning the reasons behind the significant increase in the Muslim population.
He raised concerns about the potential impact on other minority communities and criticized political parties advocating for religious-based reservations. BJP’s Amit Malviya blamed the Congress for the declining share of the Hindu population, stating that if left to the Congress, there would be no country for Hindus. Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, also held the Congress responsible for the decrease in the Hindu population, attributing it to the party’s Muslim appeasement politics. He advocated for a Uniform Civil Code to address the imbalance in population growth.
