Dog Capturing Intensifies Near Anna Square Ahead of Republic Day Celebration in Chennai
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has intensified its dog-capturing activities near Anna Square ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, capturing 86 dogs from Marina Beach. The move followed an incident where a stray dog reportedly intruded during a parade practice session. The annual drive involves capturing stray dogs for spaying, and the animals are later released to their respective locations.
However, activists claim that dogs, including elderly, pregnant, and blind ones, are captured from Anna Square to the Light House, violating Animal Welfare Board of India rules. The activists argue for more humane and compliant practices during dog-catching activities to ensure the well-being of the animals.
