Doctors Emphasize Precautions for Vulnerable Groups Amid Low COVID-19 Admissions in Chennai Hospitals

Despite a decline in COVID-19 admissions at major government hospitals in Chennai, doctors stress the need for caution, especially among the elderly and individuals with co-morbidities. Currently, there are only four COVID-19 patients at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), with no cases reported in other significant facilities.

Symptoms observed include fever, cough, and myalgia, with minimal lung involvement. Doctors highlight the importance of mask-wearing for high-risk individuals, including pregnant women and the elderly. Those with co-morbid conditions, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or asthma, are particularly vulnerable, and precautions, including mask usage, are strongly advised.

Despite a perceived decrease in the virus’s virulence, doctors underscore the persistence of COVID-19 and stress the importance of adhering to preventive measures, such as avoiding crowded places, maintaining physical distance, and frequent handwashing. Individuals with co-morbidities are urged to seek prompt medical attention for persistent symptoms, as they may experience a prolonged illness compared to the general population.
